Foreword

Ontario’s plan for phase three of responding to the corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak – re-opening Martial Arts Schools. As such, Lewis’ Karate Schools is working with Provincial Guidelines as well as the World Health Organization recommendations to help as a first step, developing a framework to guide our approach. This framework outlines the method and principles we will use to re-open Lewis’ Karate Schools to ensure the health and safety of its students, families, and staff.

Phases of Re-Opening

Timing

As we follow the Provincial and Federal Guidelines, the phases of re-opening will be dependent on their advice and recommendations.

Frame Work

A Framework for re-opening includes three stages. Through all stages, student health and safety will be our number one concern, while balancing the needs of both our students and families.

Phase One

  • Students must confirm the two days they intend to train through e-mail lks1999@rogers.com or calling (705)733-8994 based on availability
  • This will alleviate the possibility of being turned away from a full class
  • Limited number of parents allowed in the viewing area
  • Max. 10 people
  • Must follow all social distancing rules and masks are mandatory in the viewing area
  • Classes will be 30min in length
  • This allows for an extra 15 min to sanitize between classes
  • Masks are mandatory for all students (Exceptions while training will be subject to class size)
  • Classes will be based on individual stationary training, performed in the marked area designated for each student
  • Class size will be modified based on provincial government recommendations
  • No Sparring at this time
  • Kata will be based on class size
  • Refer to new covid-19 schedule for a list of updated programs that will be running, all other programs will be adjusted and/or added as permitted
  • Class Schedule: New Schedule – Posted On: Website, Facebook, & Instagram

(Subject to change based on provincial government recommendations and guidelines provided)

Phase Two

  • Students may train more than two days based on availability
    • Pre-sign up for classes is still in effect
  • Limited number of parents allowed in the viewing area
    • Max. 10 people
    • Must follow all social distancing rules and masks are mandatory in the viewing area
  • Classes will return to 45 min
    • Sanitization between classes will continue
  • Class size, sparring, and applicable curriculum ie. self-defence will resume based on provincial government recommendations
  • Kata based on spacing availability
  • Additional programs may be added as permitted
  • Class Schedule: New Schedule – Posted On: Website, Facebook, & Instagram

(Subject to change based on provincial government recommendations and guidelines provided)

Phase Three

Given the “OK” by the provincial government to re-open fully with regular class size without social distancing measures in place.

Screening (What To Look For)

  • Do you have a Fever, Cough, Shortness of Breath, Sore Throat, Runny Nose, or Feeling Unwell?
  • Have you been in close contact with someone who has confirmed Covid-19 or who was sick in the past 14 days?
  • Have you travelled outside Canada in the past 14 days?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, go home and self-isolate right away. Call Telehealth or your health care provider to find out if you need a test.

If any student is at-risk (students who have been in contact with someone who is infected or suspected to be infected, or students who live with persons that are uniquely vulnerable such as the elderly) will be limited to virtual training only, unless a parent or adult student speaks and signs off with the Pro Shop.

Sanitization

  • Hand Sanitize stations will be set up at the entrance way, prior to entering the mat area, and upon exiting the school for all students, parents and staff to use.
  • At the entrance, all shoes must be properly placed neatly in a row, so when a student exits, it is safe and organized.
  • All Staff will be required to sanitize/wash their hands frequently.
  • Public Area and Mats will be sanitized prior to opening, between each class and at the end of the day.
  • Washrooms / Changerooms will be cleaned frequently. Changerooms will remain closed for students.
  • All Staff will be re-trained on cleaning protocols.

  • Students should not attend if they have a high temperature or feeling ill.

  • Parents and students are asked to wait in their cars until 5 min before class begins, at which point they will be allowed to line up to enter the school.
  • Please be mindful of limited space in the Parent Area (10 people) and it will be “first come first serve” basis. We ask that where possible parents wait in their vehicles.
  • Hands must be sanitized upon entering the school, the mat area, and upon exiting.
  • Sign In will be completed by Staff, we will not be using our self sign in system.
  • There will be taped 6 x 6 ft training zone areas on the mat.
