Before You Hit The Mats at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Humaita Barrie

So you’ve heard about Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, would like to know more about it or perhaps it’s been a childhood aspiration to learn – and here you are.

It can be a little intimidating even overwhelming about what to expect and what to do. Some people never get past this part; they let the unknown get the better of them and never call or come into Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Barrie to find out more about us.

Step 1
Before you even get on the other side of the floor and onto the training mats, you do a private bjj lesson with us to introduce ourselves, program, facility, learn the protocols and class etiquette and basic fundamental moves.

We start by covering and five critical points that we believe sets your training up for success.

1) Courtesy Bow on and off the training floor.
We take time to explain both Why do we Bow & What is the purpose of the Courtesy Bow?

2) Our School Etiquette.

starting at barrie bjj
This is the basis of our School Culture. We discuss the structure of our classes, the rules of the Dojo, attitudes towards training and student expectations. This creates a positive and inspiring learning culture within our academy. The importance of the school’s energy cannot be understated.

This is what keeps you training, learning and coming – even on the days you don’t feel like going. Our environment is purposeful.

It is deliberate. It is unique to us as a martial arts academy and a big part of what makes us a leader among Barrie martial arts academies.

3) The Break Fall.

There are many different ways to approach the Back Break Fall and the components
that go with it. For example, being aware of your breathing, engaging your core and how to
use your arms so that you protect your head are critical techniques for safety.

4) Shrimp.

One of the paramount and most used techniques, is the Shrimp. The Shrimp is the
predominant key to escaping and controlling via the hips.

5) How to get up in Base.

As we all know, most altercations end up in a clinch and go to the ground. Most
knockouts happen either from the person getting mounted and being hit or when they get
knocked down and try to get up. Getting up in Base is a series of specific movements of how
to get up from the ground safely while protecting yourself.

We are confident and feel strongly that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has excellent application and would benefit all students. Please call us to set up your introductory private lesson, allow us to personally welcome you and to show you the difference of our approach to the Martial Arts.
